Warning signs to watch for in any solar quote
These apply to any installer in any region. If you see them, walk away.
Same-day signing pressure
Reputable installers give you time to review proposals. "This price expires tonight" is a sales tactic, not a real deadline.
Vague equipment specs
Your proposal should name the specific panel model, inverter model, and racking. "Tier-1 panels" is not a specification.
Workmanship warranty under 10 years
The panels are warrantied for 25 years by the manufacturer. The installer's labor warranty should cover at least 10.
Flat electricity rate projections
Honest savings projections assume rates rise 2–3% per year. Flat-rate projections understate or overstate your real savings.
No local office
National chains that subcontract installations often have no local accountability. You want a phone number you can actually call in year 8.
Missing license number
Every state requires licensing. CT requires HIC. NY requires home improvement contractor or trade-specific licensing. Ask for the number, and verify it.
